Stakeholder Engagement & Complaints

Carbon markets - and the projects working to save our planet from global warming - are everyone's business. It is crucial to ensure all stakeholders have visibility and the opportunity to contribute their input on new methodologies and projects. We actively encourage everyone to participate in public commentary so that these initiatives benefit from diverse feedback. Methodologies and projects posted for public commentary are made publicly available and free, such that anyone can review and propose comments or grievances.
The project proposal will be published on the OCP for 15 days of public commentary before approval.
The Project Developer must respond to all public commentary during the approval process.
All comments and their resolution will be made publicly available on the registry.
The project proposal process includes sections where project developers must demonstrate that they actively engaged in equitable stakeholder engagement and consultation.
While we encourage public comments and feedback on our platform at any point, we will conduct a formal 30-day period of comments after substantial changes have been made to our procedures, platform process, or governance structure.
Comments are then considered by staff and approved by board members to devise a resolution. We will respond to comments within 14 days of the close of the public commentary.
These comments and our responses will be publicly available here and on the OCP website.
How We Engage the Public
Public commentary periods are open to anyone-- though we understand that certain groups are more affected by the policies they represent than others and the importance of having their voices heard (such as Indigenous Peoples and local communities). The goal of public commentary periods is to hear from these perspectives.
Formal public commentary periods are advertised through our communication channels and the industry groups we are a part of, which have a wide-reaching and diverse network.
Specific projects must conduct local environmental and social risk analysis and gain local feedback through their project implementation.
Reporting Grievances
Outside formal commentary periods, we encourage anyone to contact us with thoughts or concerns about the OCP platform or any of our partners. Whether you have a question or a complaint or require clarification, we are committed to addressing all grievances with care and transparency.
Grievances should be submitted in writing to the OCP admin team at admin@ocp.earth.
The OCP admin team will conduct an initial review to determine the nature and scope of the grievance and provide an initial response within 1 week.
If the grievance requires further investigation or if it involves complex matters (i.e., issues with OCP partners or staff resulting in a COI), it will be referred to our independent Board for review and recommendations.
During the review process, we are open to dialogue with the individual or group that raised the grievance. We aim to maintain transparency and engage stakeholders in good faith to work toward a fair solution.
A formal response, including any proposed actions or resolutions, will be provided within 30 days of receiving the grievance. If the matter requires more time due to its complexity, the stakeholder will be notified in writing, and a new timeline will be proposed.
If a stakeholder requires additional information beyond what is currently accessible, they should contact the OCP admin team. The admin team will then coordinate with the appropriate user to fulfill the information request.

Previous complaints, public commentaries, and solutions will be published here and on the OCP website unless the one reporting the grievance wishes to be kept confidential.
